Nepal ranks as one of the most polluted countries in the world; the State of Global Air report 2020, placed our country among the 10 countries with highest pollution level, only behind India. How dangerous is this? According to the same report, 42,100 death in the country were attributed to air pollution in 2019.
On December 14th and 15th, a two-day Solve-a-thon was organized by the World Bank and TAF with the aim of creating data-driven projects that tackles developmental challenges.
Hawa ko Reporter, addressing the dire issue of air pollution, was one of the winners of the Solve-a-thon. It is an AI enabled messaging tool that engages people on emergence of air pollution and how to respond to it going forward. Initially designed to provide only air quality reports, the chatbot now responds to basic questions about the corona virus and when required redirects the users to appropriate resources.
